''Smart Materials and Structures'' is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed scientific journal covering technical advances in smart materials, systems, structures and device engineering. The editors-in-chief from 1992–2007 were Richard O. Claus (Virginia Tech) and Vijay K. Varadan (University of Arkansas); and from 2008 to 2014 the editor-in-chief was Ephrahim Garcia (Cornell University). As of 2015, the editor-in-chief is Christopher S Lynch (University of California, Los Angeles). == Scope == A smart material is defined as any material that is capable of being controlled such that its response and properties change under a stimulus. A smart structure or system is capable of reacting to stimuli or the environment in a prescribed manner. Smart Materials and Structures is committed to the understanding, expansion and dissemination of knowledge in this subject matter.
